The ever-chasing emotion for South Africa in international cricket is winning an ICC World Cup. They always entered the tournament as the stronger contenders but ended up being chokers of the game. Meanwhile, Imran Tahir has another plans this time to counter the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

The veteran leg-spinner quoted that he is hoping for a good show from the South African this time. The Proteas got jolted with the retirement by AB de Villiers of late, but Tahir feels South Africa got the required young power to sort out things.

We have a great bunch of youngsters – Imran Tahir

The leg-spinner is optimistic about Proteas chances in the 2019 World Cup. Tahir added South Africa had got the quality side in their ranks to come good for South Africa and bolster their chances to win the trophy for the first time

Imran Tahir wants himself to be fortunate with ICC World Cup unlike many former greats of South Africa. The likes of Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith all tried and missed to bag World Cup glory.

“I’m looking at next year’s World Cup as a tournament that South Africa can do well in. We have a good team and have a great bunch of guys. They will fight to the end and never give up. I can’t predict that we will win the World Cup but I’m pretty sure we can get through to the semi-finals and then anything is possible,” Imran Tahir said.

“I would love to win a trophy for South Africa in white ball cricket. A number of cricketers who have played before me – Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher and Graeme Smith are legends of the game. But weren’t fortunate enough to win an ICC-sanctioned event during their playing careers. I might join those names, but hopefully I will still be around in 2019 to play in the next World Cup. I want to give a crack at winning the trophy in the UK,” he added speaking to Sports 24.

I believe I can deliver for South Africa – Imran Tahir

The veteran leg-spinner furtherly showed his optimism for being picked for South Africa on a regular basis. The leg-spinner added he is fit enough to play and believes he can deliver for his nation on the world stage.

“I have got to earn my way back into the Proteas ODI team. Our fast bowlers are doing quite well of late. If they are in-form and performing, I don’t mind sitting aside and watching them shine. However, I still believe I can deliver the goods and hopefully I can represent my country for a couple more years. Hopefully, I can get some white-ball games this year and put my hand up for the spot in that World Cup team next year,” he inferred.

However, it would be interesting to see how things would go for Imran Tahir and South Africa. The Proteas will be without AB de Villiers this time when they head to England for the imminent 2019 World Cup.
