South Africa's Batter Theunis De Bruyn Announces Retirement From International Cricket

South Africa’s dashing batter Theunis de Bruyn, who played 13 Tests & 2 T20Is, has bid adieu to International Cricket. The right-handed batter had made his Test debut way back in 2017 while playing against New Zealand. He played the Boxing Day Test match against Australia but couldn’t make any impact.
The 30-year-old batter was slowly coming into the groove. The batter in his Test career had managed to score 468 runs in 12 matches where he struck 1 century. This decision perhaps may be because of the changing landscape of Cricket where we can see a lot of leagues taking place.

Theunis de Bruyn on Retirement
Theunis de Bruyn released a statement on his retirement.
“I’ve been fortunate to represent my country at the highest level of cricket and that’s been the proudest moment of my career, I’ve lived a childhood dream, shared dressing rooms with my heroes, and played cricket at some of the world’s most iconic venues; and I can’t say thank you enough for the opportunities I’ve got through this game.” said Theunis de Bruyn

“Looking back at everything that I’ve achieved, it is time I say goodbye to international cricket and focus on the next chapter. I’m excited for what the future has to offer and looking forward to chasing more dreams and ambitions in life.” he added.
Concerns for South Africa
Earlier, Dwaine Pretorius had announced his retirement from International Cricket to focus on franchise cricket. Theunis de Bruyn was a part of the Pretoria Capitals in SA20 where he scored 238 runs and was the second-highest scorer. It won’t be wrong to say that the SA20 league has started to hurt South Africa.
We all witnessed how South Africa lost against the Netherlands which cost them a T20 World Cup semi-final spot. Cricket South Africa (CSA) must have conversations with players and give them extra incentives and make them play for their country, as now we are about to witness franchise cricket.
