South Africa's Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie Passes Away Aged 25

The whole cricketing world is currently busy enjoying the ongoing Indian Premier League. The league has so far lived up to the expectations and promises to be even more exciting in the coming days. But the cricketing fraternity was rocked on Friday when in an unfortunate news, former South Africa international Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie passed away in a road accident in Stilfontein, North West. In the accident, the life of her child was also lost. She was just 25.
A medium fast-bowler, Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie represented South Africa in three One-Day Internationals and one T20I in 2013. She was even part of South Africa’s 2013 World Cup squad, and made her one-day debut in that very tournament against Pakistan in Cuttack. Her last appearance in international cricket came in September 2013. But even after falling out of favour with the national team, she continued her association with the game.

She was an active player in domestic cricket till the end of 2016, and was also part of a few Emerging Players tournaments, before going on maternity leave. She also worked as a coach in community cricket.
“This is a dreadful tragedy in the true sense of that word,” Thabang Moroe, CSA Chief Executive, said. “This is devastating news for all of us. Elriesa did so much for the community in which she lived and gave excellent service both as a national player of note and in the work she did at grassroots level to help in the less fortunate communities.

“On behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest sympathy to her husband, Rudy, her family, friends and all her cricketing colleagues,” Moroe added.
