Beleaguered Indian pacer S Sreesanth was one of the developing fast bowlers in the Indian circuit until his career got cut-short due to the spot-fixing scandal. Having made his international debut in 2005, the Kerala fast bowler played 53 ODIs, 27 Tests, and ten T20Is. In a brief stint with the Indian national team, he played under three different captains (Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, and MS Dhoni) and he picked the best Indian captain. Strangely, it is not amongst those three.

S Sreesanth names the best ever Indian captain:

In a recent live chat session in Helo app, Sreesanth named Kapil Dev as the greatest Indian skipper ever. The Haryana all-rounder is credited with plotting the rise of Indian cricket, having captained the nation to it’s first-ever World Cup win in 1983. His leadership along with taking an excellent catch off Viv Richards in that final against West Indies running backwards is forever remembered. Kapil Dev also had a brief coaching stint with the Indian national team after retirement.

Meanwhile, Sreesanth, who is now 37-years of age, would be eligible to play for India and Kerela from September this year. The BCCI banned Sreesanth for life in August 2013, which they reduced it to seven years. Having also been part of the side that lifted the World Cup in 2011, Sreesanth admitted that he was nervous, but Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh encouraged him to bowl.

Furthermore, it was everyone’s dream, including his to feature in the final for Sachin and that winning the final in Mumbai was an enriching experience. The speedster was also an integral figure when the men in blue won the inaugural World T20 edition in 2007.

“In 2011, I was bit nervous, but Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh motivated me to bowl. And since it was the World Cup and we were playing at home, everyone in the side wanted to win that final at Wankhede Stadium at any cost for Sachin Paaji! And winning the final in front of an electric crowd was a great experience. It was also my last ODI match in India colours.” Sreesanth said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
