Sri Lanka Cricket to Launch New T20 League

As per reports in the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official website, the board is in talks to announce the launch of the new T20 League.

The tournament is expected to begin from 21st August. The final of the tournament will be played on 2nd September 2018. The report further stated that the league will be played between four teams.

Pertinently, the teams will be comprised of Colombo, Dambulla, Galle and Kandy. They will lock horns over a period of 13 days.

Each team will play a total of six games in the first round. They will face each other twice in the first round robin league phase.

The top two teams in the league stage will play the grand finale of the tournament which is slated to be played on 2nd September. The historic and popular R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo is slated to host the final.

All the contracted players from the national team will take part in the tournament. Other domestic contracted and upcoming U-19 players will also be a part of the tournament.

Hence, it will be a big opportunity for the youngsters to rub shoulders with some of the best.

In addition, the venues for the tournament has been decided as R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele and the Rangiri International Stadium in Dambulla respectively.

So, all the matches will be day-night affairs. There will be two matches played every day of the tournament.

Meanwhile coming back to Sri Lanka cricket, they were quite spectacular against South Africa in the Test series.

On literally sand pits, as termed by Kagiso Rabada, the Sri Lankan spinners ran through the Proteas and won both Tests quite comprehensively.

However, they have been challenged quite severely in the One-day International format and are staring down at a series defeat.

South Africa have played brilliant cricket in the limited overs format and has applied themselves quite well.

Hence they lead the five-match series by a 2-0 margin. Sri Lanka will look to make a comeback in the next match to make the last two matches interesting.
