Suspended Australian cricketer, David Warner will represent St Lucia Star in the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) a CPL release confirmed on Saturday (June 16).
Meanwhile, he will replace his countryman, D’Arcy Short, who shot to fame in the last edition of BBL. However, he will miss the tour, as Cricket Australia (CA) named Short for Australia A’s tour of India during the same timeframe.
Currently, Warner is serving a 12-month ban imposed on him for his role in the ball tampering scandal. CA sanctioned him along with Steven Smith and Cameron Bancroft, the other two culprits.
The 31-year old will also be a part of the Winnipeg Hawks at the upcoming Global T20 Canada League. He’ll also play in the Darwin Strike League in July where he will play for Randwick Petersham, his club in Sydney.
Stars excited to sign Warner
Mohammad Khan, Stars’ General Manager, expressed his excitement to sign Warner for the upcoming edition. It will strengthen their batting unit with Warner capable of demolishing any bowling unit.
The manager also added Warner would add a lot of value, as they look for their maiden CPL title.
“We are excited to bring David to the Saint Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era and a winning player. He is going to add a lot of value on the field and in the dressing room as we pursue our first Hero CPL Title,” Khan said.
This edition of the league will start from August 8 with St Lucia Stars taking on Trinbago Knight Riders.
