Australia star Steve Smith has revealed his pick for the best ODI batsman in the world at present. The former Australia skipper is currently touring England with his team for the limited-overs series. The three-match T20I series recently ended with hosts England winning it by 2-1.
Both the teams will now lock horns in a three-match ODI series. The T20I series was held in Southampton while the ODI series will be held in Manchester. And as the Australian team was moving from one bio-secure bubble to another via bus, Steve Smith decided to hold a Question and Answer session with his fans on Instagram.
The fans asked him a number of questions and one of them asked him to name the best ODI batsman. The debate over who is the best in the world at present has been going on for quite some time now. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith and several others are being considered as the best of the lot.
Earlier this year, Steve Smith reignited the debate with his fine performance when Australia toured India for a three-match ODI series in India. After not getting the chance to bat in the first game, he scored 98 and 131 in the following two games. But as far as he is concerned, he rates Virat Kohli as the best in the world at the moment.
Well, Virat Kohli is widely regarded as the best ODI player in the world and is already one of the all-time greats. He is well above his contemporaries when it comes to statistics in the 50-over format. With 43 tons to his name, he is second in the list of most centuries in ODIs. The right-handed batsman has scored over 11,000 runs in the format at a superb average of 59.33.
