Suspended Australia cricketer, Steven Smith will feature in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as he continues to ply his trade overseas during his 12-month ban.
Smith will join Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League to bolster their side led by Jason Holder. It also features the likes of New Zealand opener Martin Guptill and South Africa star Hashim Amla.
Meanwhile, the tournament will run from August 8 to September 16. Moreover, David Warner will also feature in the league for St. Lucia Stars. Warner replaced fellow Aussie D’Arcy Short, who will star in a quadrangular ODI series in India.
Steven Smith’s Barbados side will meet Warner’s St Lucia team on August 17 and September 2. Chris Lynn, Ben Cutting, and Tom Cooper are the other Australian’s to play in the Caribbean Premier League.
ICC recently confirmed Steven Smith at the top of the Test Ranking for batsmen. He sits ahead of Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson, updated after Sri Lanka-South Africa series.
The banned duo returned to field after the Cape Town saga in March early this month. Steven Smith had a good stint scoring 167 runs in six games, with two fifties. Warner, on the other hand, played his first game in Darwin’s NT Strike League. The southpaw featured in two matches, scoring 93 in the second outing.
The pair would not be participating in this year’s BBL competition. However, other overseas assignments are open to them including the T10 league in Dubai in early December, the Bangladesh Premier League in January and the Pakistan Super League in February.
