The Global T20 Canada League which was announced a few weeks back have suffered a roadblock. Recently, the situation came to the forefront as doubts started emerging over the readiness of the competition.
The schedule of the tournament hasn’t been announced yet nor there has been an official broadcaster on board at the moment. Earlier, it was noted that tournament will be beginning on June 28. If that’s the case the dates and the fixtures are supposed to be finalised pretty quickly.
As per the fresh reports which have crept in, it is being learnt that the likes of Steven Smith and David Warner, who were slated to play in the tournament are yet to see their official contracts for the event.
Moreover, when the players draft was announced there were several big names. It included the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Darren Sammy, Lasith Malinga, Shahid Afridi, David Miller and Dwayne Bravo. These players were drafted into different franchises.
As per reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, the marquee players for the event have demanded at least fees up to $100,000 for the tournament.
In addition, it will continue for 18 days and will be played in Toronto. The investors have spent around whopping $10 million to $20 million to start the new T20 League.
Interestingly, Twenty20 competitions have become one of the major events in the calendar year across the cricketing globe. And almost all countries came up with a domestic professional T20 league competition.

Details of the tournament will be briefed to cricketers, says Harper
Director of the tournament, Jason Harper said in the next 12 to 24 hours, all the 96 players will be briefed about their contract. Also, the flight details and players’ personal tickets will be provided on the tournament website as soon as it becomes available.
“CC is overseeing a lot of the payables for the competition. Everything has to go through their approvals – from contract negotiations to having money upfront for player salaries,” Harper further added and was quoted by SMH.
It will definitely be a race against time to organize the tournament like Global T20 Canada League.
“If we were going to a place that wasn’t a sports town, the logistics would be a lot more difficult. But Toronto is a sports city, it will be difficult right up to the last moment but we’ll deliver it. You can bet your last dollar that it will be delivered,” he said.
