Former Australia batsman, Michael Hussey believes Steven Smith and David Warner should directly walk into team’s World Cup squad.

Hussey believes both the talismanic batsmen should make sure everything goes right for them in the lead up to the mega event in England and Wales next year.

Meanwhile, Steven Smith and David Warner are Australia’s best batsmen. Furthermore, Australia’s ODI form has touched new lows in the recent times. Thus, Smith and Warner will be pivotal for their success in cricket’s biggest showpiece.

Smith and Warner are Australia’s best batsmen.

“It’s hard to say so far out, but the quality of player they are you probably would say they are (walk-up selections),” Hussey said on The Unplayable Podcast on Thursday (June 21).

However, Hussey believes both these players will have to hit the ground running with their performances. Hussey said the former skipper and vice-captain should be able to maintain good fitness.

“As long as they do everything right in the lead up; they’re in good touch skills-wise, they’re in good fitness, no injury concerns and they’ve done all the right things preparation-wise and behavioural-wise as well, then you’d have to think they’d come straight back in because they’re such quality players”.

There is no iota of doubt Steven Smith, and David Warner are world class players. Hussey went on to add both the linchpins should tick the right boxes before their return to the International arena.

“They’ve been quality players for such a long period of time, they’ve had success at the highest level and are important players for Australia. I think they probably do (return) as long as they tick all the boxes along the way.”

As far as playing regular cricket is concerned, both Warner and Smith will be plying on their trade in the upcoming Global T20 Canada league. Furthermore, David Warner will be seen playing for St Lucia Stars in the forthcoming CPL.

England will be favourites in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Mr Cricket went on add England will be favourites in the next year ODI carnival, as they have the right combination.

“It (the World Cup) is not a long time away and that’s the one thing that does concern me,” Hussey observed. “Leading into a World Cup year, you want to have continuity with your team, you want to get the guys playing together, getting the understanding, the communication out in the middle, knowing their roles very well and feeling comfortable around each other and that’s what England have been able to do.

“That’s why I think they’ll go into the World Cup as favorites because they have such a settled team and they’ve been playing together for quite a period of time now. Now Australia’s not going to have that luxury. We’re going to have some quality players coming back in but they’re not going to have much time to really build that continuity and communication between the group,” he added.

Meanwhile, Australia has problems of plenty. Moreover, they are in the rebuilding process after been hit by the ball-tampering scandal.
