Former India legend Sunil Gavaskar has backed One-day International series opener heroes; Kuldeep Yadav and Rohit Sharma – to be in the Test side of the Indian Cricket team.
While Kuldeep starred with the ball, Rohit played match-winning knock to guide India home following his superb century. As a result, India routed Eoin Morgan’s Three Lions by eight wickets in Nottingham to go 1-0 up.
Gavaskar feels to bundle out England for 268 without two strike bowlers would leave England to think again. Trent Bridge usually produces a dead rubber with an average score of 300 plus in the last five years.
The former India skipper believes Rohit has been in great touch and is making a strong case for recall in the Test side.
“Rohit Sharma’s batting has always been like a smooth supercar that zooms along with great speed even when it does not appear to be doing so. He was left out of the Afganistan Test squad, but is making a strong case for recall,” Gavaskar said.
Furthermore, Gavaskar noted that Kuldeep is also making a strong case for himself.
Apart from Jos Buttler, no other batsmen have picked Kuldeep and his wrong un’s have made him more powerful in the limited-overs fold for India.
“The other person who has made a strong case for himself is Kuldeep Yadav. More than the Indian batting it is how to tackle the wrist spinner that will stress the England camp. Apart from Jos Buttler, none of the English batsmen have any clue which way the ball is going to turn,” Gavaskar added.
In conclusion, Sunil Gavaskar added that Rohit and Kuldeep’s superlative performance will force the selectors to give them a nod for the Test series.
