Indian Premier League (IPL) has unearthed some fine talents over the years. The ongoing season has seen the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson firing all cylinders while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal are some of the bright young talents on show.

Sunil Gavaskar, a part of the IPL 2020 commentary panel, is also might impressed with Padikkal. He also mentioned that India legend Gundappa Viswanath is in awe of Padikkal and when he gives a nod there is a gem. Viswanath had earlier given nods to players like Rahul Dravid and KL Rahul.

“When he nods you know there is a gem there. He did that with Rahul Dravid, KL Rahul. All he did was nod his head when I asked about Padikkal” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

RCB debutant Devdutt Padikkal was destined to be a cricket. Before his birth, his parents, had decided that if it is a son then they will make him a cricketer. And after waiting patiently for a few years, Devdutt Padikkal made his debut for RCB and was on the money straight away.

Opening the batting for the Bangalore franchise, Padikkal struck a fierce half-century, to announce himself in the IPL. It also helped him become the first batsman in 10 years to score a half-century on debut in the lucrative tournament. The left-hander notched up 56 runs off 42 deliveries with his innings laced with eight boundaries.

RCB posted a total of 163/5 on board and well defended it with some brilliant bowling from leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. The Bangalore franchise, vying for their first IPL title, thus got off to a perfect start in the lucrative tournament.

IPL 2020 will be played entirely in UAE due to the pandemic situation forcing the cricket board to host the tournament away from India. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah will be the three venues used for the tournament. Dream 11 are the sponsor for the upcoming season of the tournament after VIVO pulled out.
