India cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, a member of the IPL 2020 commentary panel, has come out is support of MS Dhoni after the ‘wide ball’ controversy broke out in Dubai. Dhoni sparked a controversy in the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) which has got the cricketing folklore talking.

CSK captain Dhoni has been widely criticised for his gesture which seemingly led to the on-field umpire change his original decision in the 19th over. In the 19th over (18.2) of the SRH innings, fast bowler Shardul Thakul bowled a yorker which pitched clearly outside the tramline. On-field umpire Paul Reiffel was about to stretch his hands to signal a wide but he changed his decision after an agitated gesture from Dhoni behind the stumps.

MS Dhoni wasn’t rattled but little concerned: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar said that Dhoni was not rattled but a bit concerned after Karn Sharma conceded a boundary in the last over. He also added that it followed with the Shardul Thakur over where the batsman had moved towards the ball. Gavaskar, however, concluded it by saying that the last two overs were thrilling to watch.

“I don’t think he was rattled but obviously he a little concerned about what had happened with the last delivery from Karn Sharma which went for a boundary because he didn’t expect him to bowl that delivery,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“And there it is again, for the wide he called that the batsman had moved or maybe the batsman got a bit to it. Whatever it was, the last two overs were thrilling to watch. That’s what the T20 is all about, that’s what the IPL is all about.”

All the success had made him one of the most influential person on the cricketing circuit but he was not the same when he was first introduced to the national team. Besides that, MS Dhoni has also been the go-to man for his teammates whenever he was on the field.

Dhoni understands the game well. He knows the strength of the side and backs his players accordingly. He does not takes any kind of frivolous decisions and likes to maintain his calm. It is due to these qualities Dhoni came up as one of the most calm and composed character on the cricket field.
