Suranga Lakmal Appointed as Sri Lanka Vice Captain for Test Series Against Bangladesh

Sri Lanka speedster Suranga Lakmal has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Sri Lankan Test team for the two-match series against Bangladesh. He was named as the vice-captain by Sri Lanka’s National Selection Panel on Saturday while the Test squad was announced. The appointment was given formal consent by the Minister of Sports Honorable Dayasiri Jayasekara. The 16 member, the Lankan Test squad, was announced by the minister for their upcoming away series against the Lankans.
Middle-order batsman Kusal Mendis who was left out of the squad from the recently concluded tour of India was back in the 16 member squad as the team management hopes of giving him more opportunities to help him regain his lost confidence. Barring Kusal Mendis, Akila Dananjaya who wrecked Team India during a match in September was also included in the squad.
Now coming back to the series, the two match affair between hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is scheduled to commence from January after the tri-nation series also involving Hosts Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka. The first Test between the two teams will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium starting from January 31 while the 2nd Test is slated to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka from February 8.
