India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is celebrating his 36th birthday, the left-hand batsman has been the most dependable batsman for India in big matches, and he has top scored for India in two World Cup finals (2007 and 2011).

New heights in all three formats of the game, a slip of form saw the southpaw being dropped from the team and newcomers like Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul cementing their place with some brilliant individual performances.

The 36-year old is always known as a fighter on and off the field and he kept this image throughout his career, whether he is playing for the national team or for his IPL franchise, the left-hand batsman always played the game with aggression.

While waiting for his international call-up Gambhir has been speaking from his heart on issues relating to national pride.

Gambhir runs a foundation through which he helps the families of soldiers who risk their lives to make sure that the country stays safe.

Gambhir is one of the most successful openers India has ever had across all formats. Along with Virender Sehwag, he formed a lethal opening combination that conquered every bowling attack during the 2008-2011 period.

On Gambhir’s birthday, many cricketers took to Twitter to congratulate only the 12th Indian batsman to have scored 10,000 international runs.

Ousted India cricketer Suresh Raina, too wrote kind words for Gautam Gambhir, the left-hander said,

“Your optimistic spirit always encourages others! Your drive and determination is admirable! Have a terrific Birthday.”
