Suresh Raina is all set to be appointed as the Vice-captain of Chennai Super Kings franchise. The India batsman himself confirmed the news,

“MS Dhoni is going to be the captain, I’m going to be the vice-captain, Jadeja is also going to be there. Then there are certain players in the auction. We all will be having a meeting soon and then decide what planning we will be having for the auction,” Raina told India Today in an exclusive interview.

Raina played for CSK during the first eight years of IPL. Never during the tournament, Chennai changed the captain, and MS Dhoni continued to lead the team.

However, when the franchise was banned for two years, both the players played for different teams. While Dhoni led Rising Pune Supergiant (in the first season), Raina led Gujarat Lions. In fact, Gujarat Lions defeated Rising Pune Supergiant both the times when Dhoni was the captain of RPS.

Raina’s consistent show with the bat during IPL is now all set to see him being appointed as the Vice-captain of CSK as well.

MS Dhoni CSK signs contract

CSK had already confirmed that Dhoni would be leading the team. It is to be noted that Dhoni had already resigned from team India’s captaincy last year.

He last led a team during Vijay Hazare Trophy last year when he turned up for Jharkhand. Dhoni will be making a captaincy comeback after more than a period of one year.

Meanwhile, CSK had retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja during the retention ceremony. Dhoni was franchise’s first choice while Raina and Jadeja were their second and third choices respectively.

The team is now expected to use the Right to Match Card on Ravichandran Ashwin and Brendon McCullum during the IPL auction. These two have done well for the franchise and are expected to turn up for CSK again.

The auction for the upcoming season is all set to take place on January 27 and 28 in Bangalore later this month.
