Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019: Mumbai's Prithvi Shaw All Set to Return

The young prodigy, Prithvi Shaw is set to return to competitive cricket after a two-month injury lay-off. The 19-year old suffered a sprained ankle while fielding during a warm-up game against CA XI in November last year. He was highly tipped to make his Australia debut, but unfortunately got ruled out for the complete Test series. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw remains in contention for a call-up to the Mumbai T20 squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019, which begins on February 21st. Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is expected to meet a day to pick the team.

Emphatic debut made Shaw a rising star

2018 had been the year of Prithvi Shaw. First, under his tutelage, the India National Under-19 Cricket Team won their fourth World Cup in New Zealand; beating Australia by eight wickets in the finale. Shaw scored in access of 250 runs in the tournament along with Manjot Kalra and Shubman Gill. Though both Shaw and Gill have made their India debut, Kalra is yet to get a chance.

A few months after that, the youngster got picked by Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils then) for the IPL 2018. In nine matches played, the opener scored 245 runs with a highest of 65.

Later, during the Windies Tests at home, Shaw got to make his debut in Rajkot. Not only this, but he also became the 15th Indian to score a hundred in his maiden Test outing. In the following match in Hyderabad, he hit 70 and 33* and helped India blank the Windies 2-0.

‘…apna time aayega’ – Shaw ready to return

As he was gearing up for his debut Australia tour, Prithvi Shaw suffered an injury which kept him out of the game for nearly two months. Meanwhile, as he is rendered fit, the Mumbai batsman aims to make an emphatic comeback, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 seems to be the right platform.
