Taskin Ahmed, Imrul Kayes Face Axe for Afghanistan T20s

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday (May 20) announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 series against Afghanistan. Interestingly, out of form left-handed batsman, Imrul Kayes and paceman Taskin Ahmed faced an axe.
While Mossadek Hossain made a comeback into the side. After losing his central contract in 2018, Soumya Sarkar was introduced in the much-awaited squad.
The likes of Nurul Hasan, who was part of the 2018 Nidahas Trophy campaign was also excluded from the squad. However, Ariful Hasan retains his spot in the squad.
Chief selector Minhazul Abedin informed Soumya is included following positive affirmations with interim head coach Courtney Walsh and captain Shakib Al Hasan.
“Sohan [Nurul Hasan] was changed since we already have two wicket-keeper batsmen in the side. Mosaddek has been included in that place since we wanted an all-rounder and also because we have some concerns over Miraz’s fitness,”Abedin said as reported by the Daily Star.

On Mossadek Hossain’s inclusion:
Furthermore, Abedin has backed the inclusion of Mossadek in the squad while adding he has tackled spin-attack well.
“Since this is the shorter version, we have seen that he has enough ability to handle spin because he has the talent. Maybe he lacked a bit of consistency at times but team management had enough confidence in his fitness and that is why he was included,” Abedin continued.
The shortest version of the series will be beginning on June 3. The third and final match is slated for June 7.
