From the last couple of years, Cricket Australia left with quite a few questions regarding many aspects. One of those critical aspects is the captaincy in longer version of the game. After the ban on Steve Smith and David Warner, the board has asked Tim Paine to take the leadership, under whom, the results are not that overwhelming but everyone knows the fact that the team was in a transition phase during his tenure as a leader.

However, after the return of Steve Smith and Warner, the team once again got the perfect balance to make things fall in place. Meanwhile, the cricket analysts asked Tim Paine to get away from the captaincy role and give it to Smith, once his ban comes to an end.

Speaking of the same, Tim Paine added that he also backs Steve Smith to lead the team again. Paine quoted that he is enjoying his role as the skipper but happy to support Steve Smith if he takes the captaincy role once again for the country.

Following his one-year ban period which ended in the last week of March, Smith returned to the national side for World Cup 2019 but created a real impact during Ashes, where he scored 774 runs from seven innings at a Bradman-Esque average of 110.57.

“I’m enjoying having the job at the moment… and I certainly hope Steve Smith does captain Australia again one day, and if he does, I’ll be fully supportive of it,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

However, Steve Smith doesn’t want to think about that at the moment. Recently, Smith quoted that he is pretty happy with how things are going and stated that Tim Paine is doing a terrific job as the captain of the Test team. Steve Smith feels he is pretty chilled out at the moment off the field.
