Watch: Tom Latham Takes A Brilliant One-Handed Catch To Dismiss Prithvi Shaw

Indian opener Prithvi Shaw stood tall on Day 1 of the second and final Test between India and New Zealand at Hagley Oval. The 20-year-old Shaw, who had been criticised for not providing India with a solid start, hit back at his critics following a well deserved fifty in Christchurch. But he was dismissed soon after, by Tom Latham pulls off a stunner on being stationed at second slip.

Just as Shaw was starting to get the momentum going, the Indian batsman went chasing after an over-pitched delivery from Kyle Jamieson and handed his wicket to Latham who showcased pure instincts to pluck out the ball from thin air.

Courtesy of Latham’s one-handed stunner, New Zealand got a much-needed breakthrough after having dismissed Mayank Agarwal early. Take nothing away from Shaw though, who scored a brilliant fifty and became the second youngest Indian to score a Test fifty in New Zealand after batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar.

The right-handed opener scored his second Test half-century, off just 61 balls. He’s now joined an illustrious list behind Tendulkar who achieved this feat in 1990, at Napier, at the age of 16.

However, Jamieson soon dismissed Shaw, who was looking dangerous but had to walk away after scoring 54 runs, courtesy of some brilliant fielding from Latham.

India headed for trouble at Christchurch?

Earlier in the day, Trent Boult provided the hosts with an early breakthrough, when he trapped Agarwal for an lbw. At that point, India had put just 30 runs on the board.

However, Shaw continued to impress before he was sent packing.

On his way back to the pavilion, the youngster got a pat on the back from skipper Virat Kohli, who appreciated the 20-year-old’s hard work.

At the time of writing, India had folded for 242 in 63 overs, while New Zealand had scored 38 runs in the third session.
