Prithvi Shaw has copped criticism for his faulty technique against the new ball, mainly leaving too much gap between the bat and pad. With Prithvi Shaw not making significant scores and not helping in blunting the new ball threat either, the selectors could tinker with the opening combination in the second Test. The likes of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul will come into contention to open the batting. Nevertheless, at the end of day two, India had the upper hand as they found themselves 62 runs ahead with three more days to go.

According to Tom Moody, Shaw remains an outstanding talent; however, he has the eagerness to power the ball. Furthermore, the 55-year old opines that the shortest format has impaired his technique, mainly playing away from their bodies.
