IPL 2020: Tom Moody Suggests To Split Super Over Between 2 Bowlers For 3 Balls Each

Tom Moody has suggested an innovation in the rules of the Super over. The former Australian cricketer recommends that the super over to be split between two bowlers to bowl three balls each.

The IPL saw one of the most exciting matches in its history between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians The match was tied when Punjab was chasing the total of 177 set by Mumbai. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami displayed their potency of bowling yorkers, and the super over was also tied. This led to another super over, which Punjab won comfortably.

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, Tom Moody has put forward his suggestion of splitting the super over between two bowlers.

In a video uploaded by EspnCricinfo on Twitter, Tom Mood is seen chatting with Ian Bishop, Aakash Chopra, and host Alexis Nunes on the show ‘Mute Me’. Moody said this idea would test the bowling depth of the team. He feels that if the batting team can play with more than one batsman -3 in a super over – then the bowling team should also be given the option to use multiple bowlers.

Moody said, “My argument is based around the bowling side in the super over. I would like to see the super over be split with two bowlers, three balls each. They have to bowl their balls in consecutive numbers and then the second bowler is choosed.”

“This brings a different tactical dynamic to the super over. It also tests the depth of your bowling in your side agasint the opposition. The batting side has the chance to use numnerous batsman where i would like to see the bowling side to get to use (multiple bowlers).”

Aakash Chopra and Ian Bishop did not, at all, concur with the IPL winning coach. They believed the game is already too complicated with different formats – T20, T10, The Hundred – and this would complicate the game even further.

Meanwhile, the IPL is into its business end of the tournament. We have seen several thrilling finishes this season, including four super overs – one of which went to a double super over.
