Trent Boult and his penchant to take wickets in the first over of an innings was on full display throughout the Dream11 IPL and the southpaw was once again at his best in the all-important final against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.

Boult, who had come into the summit coach following injury concerns due to groin strain that he suffered in Qualifier 01, was right on the money from the very outset.

The Kiwi swing bowler dealt a body-blow on the Delhi Capitals on the very first ball that he bowled. It was a perfect delivery by Boult; one that came back with pace and at an awkward bounce that all could Marcus Stoinis do is fend it to Quinton de Kock.

Stoinis’ dismissal was Trent Boult’s 7th in the 14 first innings over that he bowled in the IPL 2020. Boult wasn’t done that as he strangled Ajinkya Rahane down the leg-side in his 2nd over to peg Delhi Capitals firmly on the backfoot.

Boult eventually finished with match figures of 3-30 in four overs and it was his spell that paved for the Mumbai Indians to restrict DC to 7-156- a target that was chased down in a canter by the Rohit Sharma-led unit.

The Kiwi pacer was adjudged the ‘Player of the Final’ where he did admit to having a penchant for bowling in the powerplay.

Boult went on to thank the Mumbai Indians team-management for the way they welcomed him to the set-up besides adding that despite carrying a niggle, he was desperate to step on the big stage.

”Some days I do like the powerplay. It’s been a good few months, giving the franchise a good start. With everything going on, I’ve been welcomed in the side. To have made it across the line, it’s been worth it. I wasn’t aware of the talk, but I did have a niggle coming into the match. I wanted to be on the stage and happy I came through. I’d like to say I’m relatively experienced. Just another match and I was clear what I had to do. Tried to take a few early wickets, swing the new ball a little bit, that’s been my role in the side,” Trent Boult said at the post-match presentation.

Boult eventually finished with 25 wickets in 15 games at an average of 18.28 and an economy rate of 7.97.
