New Zealand’s pace spearhead Trent Boult has opened up on dismissing Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Day 3 of the first Test match between India and New Zealand in Wellington.

Boult picked three wickets to keep India on the backfoot in their second innings. At stumps on third day’s play, India reached 144 for the loss of four wickets. Boult picked the most crucial wicket of Indian skipper Kohli in the last session.

India’s captain and the number one batsman in the world, Kohli is going through a rough patch in international cricket at the moment. Precisely, he is not having a good time with the bat and the century master has been relatively quiet for a long time now.

Kohli had the worst series as a captain with the bat in the recently-concluded India-New Zealand ODI series as he could score only 75 runs in the three games he played. This was by far his poorest performance in a bilateral ODI series since his captaincy debut in the format.

His return to form is now long-awaited and spectators hoped for his comeback in the Test series.

However, he was cheapy dismissed in both the innings of the first Test match at Wellington.

Trent Boult Reveals How He Dismissed Virat Kohli:

“Almost every time we miss, he hits and he hits it well and gets boundaries. From our point of view, we are just trying to dry the boundaries for him. I think using the wicket and using the short ball was a good plan and being able to control his run rate. It’s nice to draw the air out of him,” Boult told reporters after Stumps on Day 3.

India are now in a state of bother. They will look to bat on for a longer period to avoid a maiden Test defeat since the inception of the ICC World Test Championship.

Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari have had a good partnership in the middle and they would like to continue with the same spirit when they come out to bat on Day 4.
