India A registered a comprehensive victory in their second game in the ongoing ODI Tri-series against the Windies A – to open their account in the tournament.
And it was a much-needed victory especially given the fact that India lost their opening game quite badly to hosts England. The victory was built around a brilliant bowling performance by promising youngster Deepak Chahar.
The right-arm paceman Chahar bagged a five-wicket haul which helped India restrict England – to a moderate total of 221.
For India, Mayank Agarwal struck a stunning century as India overhauled the target 12 overs to spare.
Windies skipper Jason Mohammad won the toss and opted to bat. Chahar began in a spectacular fashion as he bagged the wicket of Jermaine Blackwood on the very second delivery of the match.
Blackwood has been an impressive performer in Test cricket and that was indeed a huge victim.
Andre Mcarthy also fell prey to Chahar in quick succession. He was quite splendid his opening spell and never allowed the WIndies batters to get settled.
Chanderpaul Hemraj at the other end played some good shots en route to 45. Whenever Windies tried to press on the accelerator a wicket fell and stalled their progress.
Devon Thomas was the top scorer for them. It was his innings of 64 which helped Windies get to the 220 mark.

Deepak Chahar came back with a bang to finish with wonderful figures of five for 27 in his allotted 10 overs.
The target of 222 was never going to challenge a star-studded Indian side. Prithvi Shaw began in a brisk manner and struck some gorgeous shots. He raced off to 26 off just 16 deliveries before he was dismissed by Chemar Holder.
From there on, Mayank Agarwal and Shubhman Gill shared a vital partnership of 48 runs which almost sealed the deal for India. They batted superbly.
Agarwal, in particular, stroked his way to another List A century. It was quite a stunning effort. He found the gaps on a regular basis and struck the big shots with disdain.
Shubhman Gill, on the other hand, ensured that he remained till the end. He scored 58 off 92 deliveries and played anchor’s role to perfection.
India eventually reached the target in the first delivery of the 39th over. For the Windies, Dominic Drakes bagged a couple of wickets.
Brief Scores:
Windies A 221 all-out in 49.1 overs (Devon Thomas 64, Chanderpaul Hemraj 45, Deepak Chahar 5/27)
India A 222/3 in 38.1 overs (Mayank Agarwal 112, Shubhman Gill 58*, Dominic Drakes 2/37)
India A won by 7 wickets (with 71 deliveries to spare)
