In the ongoing T20I match between India and Windies, Dinesh Karthik was given the opportunity of wicket-keeping ahead of Rishabh Pant.
However, the hosts took the ground without the two veteran – MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Kholi has been rested thinking in mind for the next tour to Australia. Rohit Sharma who had captained India brilliantly in the Asia Cup is leading the Men in Blue.
However, after India opted to field first, what left everyone perplexed was Dinesh Karthik donning the wicketkeeping gloves and not Rishabh Pant. There remain some excitement when people used to talk about Dhoni’s replacement. Everyone used to think who will be the perfect wicket-keeper batsman who can replace Dhoni behind the stumps.
Meanwhile, most of them were left disappointed to see Dinesh Karthik taking over. As of now, Rishabh Pant has been tipped to be Dhoni’s replacement in the limited-overs format and even the selectors wanted to test his keeping technique before the 50-over World Cup.
However, the crowd from Eden Gardens was expecting Rishabh Pant to do the honor, Dinesh Karthik surprisingly took the gloves. Previously, chief selector MSK Prasad said that India is in search for their second wicket-keeper for Dhoni. It was also clearly said that the search was regarding the World Cup.
As of now, India would probably pick a backup wicketkeeper for the event. It seems that Rishabh Pant will be the one who will be chosen to do so. It would’ve been logical to give him a go in the series opener. However, the team management has opted for some more experienced and thus given the charge to Dinesh Karthik. Both of them are in the frame for the World Cup but none of them has sealed their place yet. Dinesh Karthik has failed to impress with the gloves in the Asia Cup.
