A couple of days after failing to make the cut for the tour of Australia, Suryakumar Yadav gave yet another display of his batting abilities by powering Mumbai Indians to a thumping five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He scored an unbeaten 79 off just 43 balls as MI chased down 165 with 5 balls to spare. Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan started cautiously, adding 37 runs from 32 balls before the former was sent back by Mohammed Siraj. 15 runs later, Kishan departed too for 25. Saurabh Tiwary could not do much with the bat either as MI found themselves 3 down for 72.

But Suryakumar Yadav was holding firm from one and went on to complete a fine fifty off 29 balls. He shared a 51-run stand with Hardik Pandya to all but seal the game for his side. Chris Morris broke the stand when he sent back Pandya while MI needed only 7 from eight balls. Mumbai eventually reached the target on the first ball of the final over.

Earlier in the game, RCB finished their innings on 164 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Devdutt Padikkal continued his red-hot form with the bat and top-scored for his side. The opener slammed 74 from 45 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six. He and Josh Philippe gave RCB a solid start by adding 71 runs in less than eight overs.

However, RCB’s middle-order failed to deliver today due to which the team struggled to finish strongly. At 129 for 2 after 15 overs, the Bangalore-based outfit was looking set to score close to 200. But MI’s bowlers turned things around for their side with a stunning display, restricting RCB to 164.

RCB managed to score only 35 runs in the final 5 overs while losing four wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for MI, taking 3 for just 14 off his four overs.
