Sri Lanka skipper Lasith Malinga starred as Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 37 runs to finish the three-match series on a high in Pallekele. The Sri Lankan legend claimed four wickets from four balls to set up the consolation win after losing the first two matches of the series.

Batting first, contributions from opener Danishka Gunathilaka and in the middle order- Niroshan Dickwell and Lahiru Madushanka helped them post a challenging total of 125 runs on the board. Todd Astle and Mitchell Santner reduced them after a good start but the partnership in the middle-order helped to cross the 100-run mark.

Malinga finished with figures of five for six in the full quota including a maiden. The 33-year-old might be nearing the twilight of his career but the flavour is still intact. Lasith Malinga still can dismantle any batting unit across the world and he proved it once again.

Lasith Malinga bowled four yorkers, each one getting all the more unplayable, and killing the contest right there. With these four wickets, he completed 100 T20I wickets and became the fastest to achieve so. Moreover, he is the only bowler to scale five hat-tricks. In 2007, Malinga scaled another four wickets in four matches against South Africa in an ODI game.
