South African and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting sensation AB de Villiers put up an amazing performance for his team in the 10th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai.

Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat first while making one change to their playing XI, bringing in Rajat Patidar for Dan Christian. Eoin Morgan’s KKR remained unchanged.

Varun Chakravarthy got KKR some early breakthroughs as Virat Kohli was brilliantly caught by Rahul Tripathi for 5 runs, while he clean-bowled Rajat Patidar for 1 run with an excellent wrong one. This left RCB in a spot of bother, but then Glenn Maxwell joined Devdutt Padikkal and the duo added 85 runs for the 3rd wicket to put KKR on to the path for a big score.

But they needed something special from Maxwell and AB de Villiers to truly stamp their authority on the innings and got just that. While Padikkal fell for 25 runs, Maxwell carried on to make 78 runs in just 49 balls. He slammed 8 fours and 3 sixes in his knock and also added 53 runs in just 6 overs.

However, Glenn Maxwell fell in the 17th over caught by Harbhajan Singh off Pat Cummins and this left De Villiers to cause some much-needed carnage and that’s what he did.

RCB scored 70 runs in the last 5 overs and the South African superman scored 55 runs on his own. He slammed 9 fours and 3 sixes in the innings. He smashed Harbhajan Singh for two sixes in the 19th over and then slammed 3 fours and one six off Andre Russell in the last over as well, helping RCB cross the 200-run mark and end the innings on 204/4.

His strike rate was 223.52, while Kyle Jamieson also contributed 11 runs with one four and one six.

The Twitterverse was all praises for AB de Villiers for his whirlwind knock which has put RCB in a position of extreme advantage. Some even commented that the South African team should talk to him about playing in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup to be played in India later this year.
