He struggled to hit a single six last season; he was mocked; he was ridiculed; he was eventually released by the Punjab Kings but Virat Kohli’s RCB decided to punt on him and Glenn Maxwell, so far, has repaid the faith in IPL 2021.

After having played back-to-back match-winning knocks in the first two games, Glenn Maxwell once again proved to be the savior for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s savior in the ongoing game against KKR as he unleashed a masterstroke on a slowish Chepauk track.

Coming into bat with RCB reeling at 2-9 after two overs, Glenn Maxwell laid into Shakib Al Hasan by cutting, swatting over long-on, and switch-hitting him for three fours and a six across two overs to infuse some momentum back into RCB’s innings.

Maxwell was equally brutal against the pace of Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna as he notched up regular boundaries even as Devdutt Padikkal struggled.

Even Varun Chakravarthy wasn’t spared ar the Aussie swashbuckler proceeded to welcome him in his second spell with a four and a six.

Maxwell brought up his 2nd consecutive fifty off just 28 balls in the next over bowled by Pat Cummins and he celebrated that by hitting Krishna and Harbhajan for two fours in his next six deliveries.

Maxwell then proceeded to stitch a brilliant 53-run stand in just over five overs and by the time he was dismissed for a 49-ball 78, he had already put RCB in a commanding position.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Glenn Maxwell’s whirlwind knock:
