NED vs ENG: Twitter Erupts As Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone's Fireworks Helps England Set World Record Highest ODI Total Of 498 vs Netherlands

England wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler carried over his IPL form to international cricket, smashing the second-fastest hundred in ODIs by an English batter, the second-fastest 150 by a batter in ODI history, en route to helping England pile up the highest-ever ODI total.

The first of the 3-match ODI series between the two teams got underway on Friday, with the Englishmen batting first. Jason Roy fell for 1 in the second over of the game but what followed was unreal batsmanship from the World champions.

Philip Salt and Dawid Malan began rebuilding the innings and picked up the pace once they were settled. They brought up their respective hundreds in a partnership that put up 222 on the board.

Salt scored 14 fours and 3 sixes in his 93-ball 122-run knock while Malan took more time, scoring 125 in 109 balls with 9 fours and a maximum.

The Dutch might have thought the worst was behind them but it was yet to come. Buttler, coming into the series on the back of his best-ever IPL season, raced away to his fifty in 27 balls.

He continued the carnage, smashing sixes at will and bringing up his century in 47 balls, one ball more than his own record for England. Although Malan and Eoin Morgan fell off successive deliveries, Liam Livingstone made sure the run flow continued.

The right-hander scored his 50 in just 17 balls, the joint-second fastest in ODI history. It included a 32-run over off Philippe Boissevain, who recorded the 4th worst figures in ODI history (0/108 in 10 overs).

Buttler and Livingstone put on 91 runs in just 32 balls, with the former bringing up his 150 off 65 balls, one ball more than the record held by AB de Villiers (64 balls against WI).

They ended up with 498/4 on the board, the highest-ever total in ODI history, beating their own record of 481 they piled up against Australia.
