IPL 2021: Twitter Goes Crazy After Harshal Patel Gets A Hattrick; Leads RCB To A Big Win Over MI

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) inflicted a massive defeat on Mumbai Indians (MI) courtesy of a stunning Harshal Patel hattrick in the 17th over of the run chase. The win solidified RCB’s spot in third place and further worsened MI’s chances of making it to the playoffs.

The match will go down as one of RCB’s best performances against the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai. Harshal, in particular, was unbelievable with the ball as he ended with figures of 4/17 in 3.1 overs. This follows his earlier five-wicket haul against the defending champions from the first half of the IPL 2021.

Batting first, RCB endured similar hiccups in the middle overs after another good start. Virat Kohli scored his second consecutive fifty and along with Glenn Maxwell, built a platform for them to launch. The latter exploited the reverse hit to the fullest, scoring five boundaries with his trademark shot.

At one point, it looked the Bangalore boys would go past 180 quite easily but a wonderful double-wicket over from Jasprit Bumrah where he got both Maxwell and AB de Villiers turned the match. Kohli and co. ended with only 165/6 on the board eventually.

Chasing a par total, MI got off to another fabulous start. They raced away to 56/0 in the powerplay. Once the spinners came into the picture, things changed. Wicket began tumbling as Yuzvendra Chahal and Maxwell applied the chokehold. The game-defining moment came in the 17th over of the match.

Harshal picked up the wickets of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Rahul Chahar off successive deliveries to bury any hopes MI had towards the end. They were soon bundled out for 111, their lowest score against the Bangalore franchise.

RCB now has 12 points from 10 games and looks set in the third position. Mumbai, on the other hand, succumbs to their third defeat in a row and is languishing in seventh place.
