Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earned their second win of the second leg as they cruised to a straightforward six-wicket victory over their southern rivals, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The win propelled CSK back to the top of the table owing to their excellent net run rate.
RCB’s best phase in the match came during the first 10 overs of their innings. After losing the toss, they set out to bat and began on the right tempo. Virat Kohli looked in great touch while Devdutt Padikkal settled in.
They soon began to up the ante further and stitched a 100-run partnership around the 11-over mark. Things slowed down, however, courtesy of a typical CSK middle-over strangle. It wasn’t an easy track to bat for the new batsmen and it showed as RCB began to lose wickets in clusters. They eventually put up 156/6 on the board which seemed quite under-par.
Having seen the middle-overs struggle, CSK openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad began attacking in the powerplay. They put up a 50-run partnership and brought the required rate below seven in the process. Gaikwad fell to a superb catch by Kohli but that didn’t deter CSK.
Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu continued to push their team closer to the total. They both fell to innocuous deliveries but had already done enough for the side. CSK’s most experienced players, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni, then joined hands and took the team over the line to complete the rout.
Twitterati was happy with Kohli’s return to form but lamented the lack of bowling in the RCB department. The loss for Kohli’s men was their seventh in a row in the UAE, a streak they would quickly like to end before it’s too late.

Very clever run chase from #CSK. Love how they kept finding the boundaries and then just knocked it around. The 6s from Moeen and Rayudu were the difference

Nothing less than a trophy for CSK would heal the pain of last season. So celebration in limit, but chest thumping tomorrow with no limit from Farzi.

#CSK win in a canter. #RCB paying price messy batting after fine opening start. At one stage even 200 looked possible. To finish with 156 virtually handed over match to CSK. Kohli’s struck form with the bat, but RCB need wins to find place in play-offs
