IPL 2021: Twitter Reacts As KKR Earn Second Consecutive Victory, Brush Aside MI With A 7-Wicket Victory
Updated - 24 Sep 2021, 01:17 AM
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) continued their resurgence in the second leg of the IPL 2021 with a second consecutive and comfortable victory over defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI). Another excellent bowling effort and a good top-order batting performance sees them climb to fourth place on the table.
Eoin Morgan’s decision to bowl first was questioned early on when both Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got going quickly. The pair brought up the team 50 in the powerplay and looked set to continue. Sunil Narine was brought into the attack and he provided the breakthrough.
Rohit fell for 33 and his wicket slowed down the scoring rate. The batsmen who followed failed to contribute much and wickets tumbled at regular intervals. De Kock reached his fifty but couldn’t kick on and the MI side huffed and puffed to a total of 155/6.
With growing confidence after a brilliant opening stand against RCB, Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer once again put their team in the driver’s seat. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the former with a slower ball but that was just the beginning of MI’s misery.
Rahul Tripathi walked out and played with intent, pushing the scoreboard forward. Iyer at the other end showed no fear and kept chipping away at the total. Both of them reached their fifties before Iyer was outfoxed by another Bumrah slower ball.
The damage was done, however, as Tripathi carried on in the company of skipper, Morgan, scoring a brilliant 42-ball 74. They won with 29 balls to spare and the victory took KKR over RR and Mumbai into fourth place by virtue of a much better net run-rate.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to KKR’s resurgence in the second leg of IPL 2021
This is a huge win for @KKRiders yet against NRR gets a major boost. Opens up the entire points table. Will be a major scramble in the middle for play off spots. Fun of the @IPL

We're witnessing a proper T20 batting from KKR against a high class Mumbai Bowling unit.

And won’t be surprised if #MI doesn’t qualify for the playoffs. #IPL2021

The #KKR before the break were unrecognisable from this team. They are in serious contention now for a play-off spot

KKR seem to have had a religious transference of spirit from Brendan McCullum to the team during the IPl break. This is seemingly and absolute thrashing.

Huge win for KKR. Opens up the points table big time.
KKR move from second-last to top four in a matter of two games. With games against PBKS & SRH still in hand.#MIvsKKR— Deepu Narayanan (@deeputalks) September 23, 2021
Could understand chasing 93 in 10 overs, but now 155 in 15 overs against the defending champions. The knights have issues a statement of solid intent. Walked the talk of playing fearless, solid cricket. #KKRvsMI Well played @KKRiders

Suddenly, KKR is a serious contender for play-off after two wins in a row. But, it is unusual for MI to see that #SuryakumarYadav , #ishankishan and #pandya brothers not contributing enough. #MivsKKR #KKRvsMI #KKRvMI
