Twitter Reacts As Sarfaraz Khan Smashes Double Century For Mumbai
Sarfaraz Khan began the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season on the perfect note as he carried on from his overnight score and smashed a double century on Day 2 of Mumbai’s first match against Saurashtra.
After opting to bat first, Mumbai found themselves in trouble as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the third over. Aakarshit Gomel and Sachin Yadav fell within the first hour as well and Mumbai was reeling at 44/3.
Ajinkya Rahane, who has returned to domestic cricket to find some form, then teamed up with Sarfaraz and the duo began the rebuilding process. Both batters were circumspect as they couldn’t afford to lose another wicket.
Both struck boundaries at will and ensured that Mumbai reaches stumps without losing another wicket. On Day 2, they carried on the partnership but Rahane fell after making 129.
Sarfaraz was unperturbed and he carried on in the company of other partners. Aditya Tare played a cameo while Shams Mulani also chipped in with 12 as Sarfaraz inched closer to his double hundred.
Finally, the 24-year-old managed to go past the milestone and he needed just 343 balls to get there. In the latest update provided by the BCCI, Sarfaraz had reached 218 off 365 balls, having struck 24 fours and five maximums. It is also his third double century, including a triple hundred, in his last nine Ranji innings.
The match is being followed quite keenly as both Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahane are participating in the match. While Rahane has proven he still has what it takes, Pujara’s innings for Saurashtra will also be followed closely.
