IND vs NZ 2021: Twitter Reacts As Shreyas Iyer Scores Scintillating Century On Test Debut

Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer made the most of his first opportunity in Tests as he smashed a brilliant hundred on Day 2 of the first Test between India and New Zealand at Green Park in Kanpur.

Iyer, unbeaten overnight on 75*, took little to no time in reaching his hundred and he did it with a flurry of boundaries. With the new ball in play, there was movement on offer for the Kiwi bowlers but Iyer wasn’t too fussed about it.

He continued his merry ways, starting off the Day with a couple of boundaries in Kyle Jamieson’s first over. Although his overnight partner, Ravindra Jadeja, fell early to Tim Southee, Iyer made sure it didn’t affect his game and reached his century with a gentle dab behind point.

The emotion and relief of getting through the nervous 90s was quite evident on Iyer’s face and he soaked in the applause by kissing the Indian badge. With that, he became the 16th Indian player to score a century on debut and the joint fourth fastest in terms of balls faced.

With the pitch quite conducive to batting once the batter is set, Iyer can go on to make a big score and cement his place in the middle-order, especially considering Ajinkya Rahane is woefully out of form.
