IND vs NZ 2021: Twitter Reacts As Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill Dazzle As India Take Honors On Day 1 Against New Zealand
Updated - 25 Nov 2021, 06:07 PM
Indian opener Shubman Gill and debutant middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, impressed with the bat on day 1 as India wrested control of the proceedings after opting to bat first in the first Test against New Zealand on Thursday.
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. The pitch was flat but did offer some assistance to the bowlers – Kyle Jamieson, in particular, making the most of it. He removed Mayank Agarwal early but Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara started the rebuilding process.
Gill fell just after Lunch and Pujara soon followed as the Kiwis started gaining the upper hand. Rahane looked in good touch before becoming Jamieson’s third victim of the day. They headed into Tea at 154/4 with the visitors looking to go for the killer blow.
Shreyas and Ravindra Jadeja had other ideas, however, as they stitched an unbeaten 113-run partnership to take India to the close of play without further damage. At Stumps, India was 258/4, with Shreyas batting on 75* and Jadeja on 50*. Jamieson ended the day with impressive figures of 3/47.
The spin-trio of New Zealand couldn’t penetrate on a track that offered a bit of low bounce and spin. They were dealt with by capable Indian batsmen. Heading into Day 2, the Kiwis will be keen on making early inroads to stop a big total.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Day 1 of India vs New Zealand:

Jadeja’s batting transformation is all about a clear Gameplan and the commitment-belief of sticking with it for as long as possible. What an incredible value-addition in the whites. #IndvNZ
