IPL 2021: Twitter Reacts As Jason Holder's Stupendous Efforts Go In Vain As PBKS Manage To Eke Out A 5-Run Win Over SRH
Updated - 26 Sep 2021, 01:30 AM
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Jason Holder put up an unbelievable all-round effort but failed to take his team through against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The five-run loss to PBKS has virtually ended SRH’s hopes of making it to the playoffs.
PBKS had the task of setting up a target on a slow pitch in Sharjah. The openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, set out to repeat their performance from the last match. Alas, they failed quite miserably, falling to the best player on the night, Holder.
The foreign recruits, Chris Gayle, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran tried to provide some impetus to the innings. None of them could but lower-order contributions from Harpreet Brar and debutante, Nathan Ellis ensured that PBKS reached 125/7 in their stipulated 20 overs.
The chase was going to be anything but straightforward considering the shaky Hyderabad batting order. And it proved to be so right at the start when David Warner and Kane Williamson were dismissed by Mohammed Shami in the first and third over respectively.
A much-needed alliance was formed soon between Manish Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha but runs came at a trickle. Ravi Bishnoi spun a web around the Hyderabad side as he picked up three crucial wickets in the middle-overs phase. The match seemed done and dusted but Holder wasn’t done for the night.
Having been SRH’s best bowler with figures of 3/19 earlier, Holder set out to show the way to bat on the Sharjah track. He hit five maximums in his 47-run unbeaten knock but some good death bowling eventually took PBKS over the line.
Twitterati had a tough time believing that the Sunrisers managed to botch up a low run-chase. The defeat also was the Men in Orange’s eighth defeat in nine matches and has virtually ended their campaign in IPL 2021.
Here are a few reactions from PBKS vs SRH
Safe to say it wasn't the most exciting day's cricket. Need a little more life on these pitches

Jason Holder had the best bowling figures in the match (3/19) and scored the most runs (47* off 29 with 5 sixes) but had to end on the losing side. #SRHvsPBKS #IPL2021

According to Match Impact, Holder's performance of 4-0-19-3 and 47* (29) is the eighth most valuable performance ever for Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the third most valuable in a defeat. The most valuable in a defeat was Henriques v RCB in 2015, with 57 (22) and 1-0-3-2. #IPL2021

Holder did his best, but no support at the end out paid to #SRH’s hopes of winning. Punjab will heave a sigh of relief. Almost messed up this match too. What matters is they won and stay alive for a place in the play offs

This proves Punjab kings have signed contract to only play thrillers in the IPL. Simply winning or losing a match is not their style #PBKSvSRH pic.twitter.com/Zz6H8UkObB
