Well, now, how would you describe Murali Vijay? Was looking like an out of form player when he featured for India in the recently-concluded Test series against England eventually losing his place. Now, he -smashed a splendid century on his debut for Essex County Cricket (ECC). How times impressions on a player change pretty quickly?
The classy Tamil Nadu stroke-maker scored a fifty in the first innings and followed it up with an unbeaten century.
Ironically, he scored runs at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the venue in which he was dropped from the team after faring poorly in first two Test matches.
Murali Vijay smashed 15 boundaries in his century for Essex:
The stylish right-handed batsman Vijay was on top of the mark right from the ball one. Murali, in the presence of Tom Westley, kept Nottinghamshire fielders chasing the leather often than not under the sun.
Vijay numbered as many as 15 boundaries in his sterling century. Westley equally supported him, As soon as Vijay goes past three-figure mark century, he was knocked out by Samit Patel.
Coming to the match status, it was Nottingham, who batted first and scored just 177 runs on the board. In reply, Essex scored 233 runs taking a healthy lead.
Despite the good start from Murali Vijay with a century, none of the batsmen stood tall to stretch the lead for Essex.
In reply, Nottinghamshire registered 337 with three of their batsmen scoring fifties. Simon Harmer was the wrecker-in-chief for Essex with six wickets to his name.
Meanwhile, in chasing, 282 runs Essex started the things solidly by knocking 224 runs for two wickets at the fall of Murali Vijay’s wicket. It was the first session of the Day four and Essex is already cruising for the victory.

So Murali Vijay starts his county stint with a 50 in the first innings and a 100 in the second. Slightly late in English conditions but I think he will make it to Australia because of his brilliant run in 2014-15. @RaunakRK pic.twitter.com/wVtPNVJpTQ
