IPL 2020: Twitter Reacts As Manish Pandey And Vijay Shankar Power SRH To Thumping Win Over RR
Updated - 23 Oct 2020, 01:13 AM
Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar starred with the bat, sharing an unbeaten stand of 140 runs to help Sunrisers Hyderabad thrash Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets. The win was the fourth in ten games this season for SRH. On the other hand, Royals suffered their seventh defeat in 11 games.
Chasing 155, SRH were off to a disastrous start with their batting mainstays – David Warner and Jonny Bairstow – departing cheaply. Jofra Archer sent both of them back to reduce SRH to 16 for 2 inside three overs.
But before Royals could make further inroads in the game, Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar steadied the ship. Pandey took the attack to the opposition right from the start as he reached his fifty off just 28 balls. On the other hand, Shankar looked more than content to play the role of the second fiddle.
The duo completed their fifty-run stand in the 15th over and by the time the over ended, SRH were 118 for 2, needing only 37 runs from the final five overs. SRH eventually reached the target in the 19th over. Pandey remained unbeaten on 83 while Shankar remained unbeaten on 52.
Earlier in the game, Royals finished their innings on 154 for 6 after David Warner won the toss and invited them to bat first. The Royals were off to a good start and were 86 for 1 in the 12th over. But once Jason Holder broke the 56-run stand between Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson by dismissing the latter, the Royals’ innings derailed.
From thereon, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and as a result, their innings never got the impetus in the end. They could have ended below 150 too but thanks to Jofra Archer’s fine cameo of 16 from 7 balls, the inaugural IPL winners managed to cross the mark.
Samson was the top-scorer for Royals, scoring 36 off 26 balls. For SRH, Holder, who was playing his first game of the season, was the pick of the bowlers. The West Indies Test skipper picked 3 for 33 off his four overs.

This win will give @SunRisers a lot of confidence as Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar won it for them. Never easy when you lose Warner and Bairstow cheaply. #SRHvsRR #SRHvRR

This innings from Manish Pandey is what you want your senior batsman to do. Take control of the innings and see the team through!

Pandey Ji. One of his best #IPL innings. And he’s played quite a few… #IPL2020 #SRHvsRR

The all-round performance of Vijay Shankar is the biggest plus. He had to be batting no 4 as an India player @SunRisers
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) October 22, 2020
Jofra Archer – Best bowler of this season and Vijay Shankar has smashed three consecutive fours.

Manish Pandey was batting like a man possessed, today. Furious? 83(47)*
Classy Vijay Shankar impressed particularly in that one smash-over, bowled by Archer – 52(51)*
Their Match-winning 140* run partnership#SRHvsRR

Stat of the day – First-time #SRH have had two Indian batsmen putting up a century stand!
What a record and tells a lot about SRH and their setup and who’s led the side with the bat.#IPL2020

What an innings from Manish Pandey, has faced fair amount of criticism for his low Strike Rate every time, but tonight he’s on fire since beginning of his innings. Top striking and strokeplay, lovely partnership with Vijay Shankar.

Manish Pandey, like Badrinath before him, will always remain- “Why doesn’t he play more for India” player
— Gappistan Radio (@GappistanRadio) October 22, 2020
Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar are the first Indian pair to share a century partnership in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Parthiv Patel-Shikhar Dhawan’s 89-run opening stand vs KKR in 2013 was the previous highest IPL partnership for SRH by an Indian pair. #RRvSRH #IPL2020
— Sampath Bandarupalli (@SampathStats) October 22, 2020
Manish Pandey hit 4 sixes in Powerplay today. Excluding SMAT20, only thrice in his entire T20 Career he hit more than 4 sixes in an innings. To do it when your team’s premier batsmen are in back the hut & yourself struggling with form, that requires some guts. So Watchful today!

What a spell from Jofra Archer. Gets David Warner out caught at second slip. Dismisses Bairstow with an incoming delivery which castles his stumps. High quality Test match line & length with fiery pace. Great effort #RRvsSRH #SRHvsRR
— Sarang Bhalerao (@bhaleraosarang) October 22, 2020
A muddle in the middle is having a domino effect on @rajasthanroyals. Were looking like that they might have got to 175.
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) October 22, 2020
Last time David Warner was out in the first over in IPL was in 2016.
Bowler was Ashok Dinda. #IPL2020 #RRvSRH
— Bharath Seervi (@SeerviBharath) October 22, 2020
Riyan Parag is a freak. This guy should be one of the best finishers in the future if not it will be a big loss for India.
— Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) October 22, 2020
Ben Stokes now has faced 100 deliveries in IPL 2020 and hasn’t hit a SIX, the most by any batsman in this season.
— Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) October 22, 2020
Genuinely feel Tom Curran did better job for Rajasthan Royals with both bat and ball than Ben Stokes.
