Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar starred with the bat, sharing an unbeaten stand of 140 runs to help Sunrisers Hyderabad thrash Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets. The win was the fourth in ten games this season for SRH. On the other hand, Royals suffered their seventh defeat in 11 games.

Chasing 155, SRH were off to a disastrous start with their batting mainstays – David Warner and Jonny Bairstow – departing cheaply. Jofra Archer sent both of them back to reduce SRH to 16 for 2 inside three overs.

But before Royals could make further inroads in the game, Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar steadied the ship. Pandey took the attack to the opposition right from the start as he reached his fifty off just 28 balls. On the other hand, Shankar looked more than content to play the role of the second fiddle.

The duo completed their fifty-run stand in the 15th over and by the time the over ended, SRH were 118 for 2, needing only 37 runs from the final five overs. SRH eventually reached the target in the 19th over. Pandey remained unbeaten on 83 while Shankar remained unbeaten on 52.

Earlier in the game, Royals finished their innings on 154 for 6 after David Warner won the toss and invited them to bat first. The Royals were off to a good start and were 86 for 1 in the 12th over. But once Jason Holder broke the 56-run stand between Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson by dismissing the latter, the Royals’ innings derailed.

From thereon, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and as a result, their innings never got the impetus in the end. They could have ended below 150 too but thanks to Jofra Archer’s fine cameo of 16 from 7 balls, the inaugural IPL winners managed to cross the mark.

Samson was the top-scorer for Royals, scoring 36 off 26 balls. For SRH, Holder, who was playing his first game of the season, was the pick of the bowlers. The West Indies Test skipper picked 3 for 33 off his four overs.
