The 6th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 brought an exciting high-scoring encounter between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants from the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai after a long wait of 3 years. CSK who started the day with the bat first had a great outing as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put together a stunning 110-run stand for the 1st wicket.

Both Gaikwad and Conway were on the top of their game with Gaikwad registering his second consecutive fifty in the tournament. After their dismissal it was Shivam Dube who somewhat redeemed himself with a brief cameo.

The middle order in Ambati Rayudu and Moeen Ali and made their contributions to the score but it was CSK’s MS Dhoni who finished the first inning giving the fans what they came for as he smashed Mark Wood for two consecutive sixes in the final over as CSK walked up to 217 runs on the board.

LSG in reply had a flying start as Kyle Mayers smashed his way through CSK’s bowling attack smacking them all around the park as he became the first player in IPL history to score consecutive IPL fifties on debut. However, while at one moment it was looking like Lucknow would run away with the game, it was Moeen Ali who emerged to be the match-winner for CSK bagging 4 wickets in his spell to push Lucknow on the backfoot.

The rapid collapse of wickets was too much for LSG to handle as they lost the game by 12 runs, giving CSK their first win of the season.

Not a lot of changes on the points table and expect this to be the case unless double headers or until we reach the business end of the tournament. Rajasthan are still at the top. However, Lucknow following their loss have now dropped down to third pushing RCB to second place. Gujarat and Punjab remain at the top half of the table while CSK with their win have now climbed a single spot pushing KKR to their place at 7th with the rest of the table being unchanged.

Neither Ruturaj Gaikwad or Kyle Mayers want to stop anytime soon as the two became the first two players to cross the hundred-run mark this season. Gaikwad remains on the top following his fifty with 149 runs, while Mayers has climbed back up to the second spot with 126 runs pushing Tilak Verma, Virat Kohli, and Faf Du Plessis down by a spot each.

Ravi Bishnoi too was on a roll for LSG picking up crucial wickets as he climbs to the 2nd post with 5 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal is now in the 3rd place with 4 wickets but now has competition as CSK’s Moeen Ali too has 4 wickets to his name and climbs to the 4th position pushing Arshdeep Singh down to the fifth place.
