We have witnessed the sportsmanship take place between players that leave with tears of immeasurable joy in the gentleman’s game, but there have had been the challenging times when attitude has got better off players. The same has happened with the Delhi side-led by Rishabh Pant during the grand finale of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season against buoyant force Vidarbha at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Saturday (December 30).

The unfortunate incident took place on the fourth day of the Ranji final when batsman Akshay Wadkar received a short and rising delivery.

The short video clip saw Wadkar writhing in pain after failing to tackle the vicious delivery of left-arm fast bowler Kulwant Khejroliya, as close-in Delhi fielders were off to change their fielding positions including gloveman Pant.

It’s pertinent to mention that, Khejroliya bowled the delivery at 128kph, but it took off sharply from the surface, as Wadkar, who looked bit tired.

To be precise, Wadkar, who smashed maiden hundred of the first-class cricket, as he received the body blow when he was batting at 129 while failing to ride the bounce.

However, when Wadkar coped the telling blow, as his batting partner Siddhesh Neral, who was batting on 56 off 88 deliveries straightaway asked for help from the dressing room at the stroke of stumps on day four.

After Wadkar was stable again to get back on his feet as Khejroliya followed up with the 130kph yorker before conceding a couple on his third delivery when Wadkar found the gap in the cover region.

Starting off his over with the 128kph, Khejroliya finished his over with 135kph to Test the centurion Wadkar.

Moreover, the wicketkeeper-batsman Wadkar, who added just four, runs after the blow in 155th over of Vidarbha’s first innings.

Interestingly, Khejroliya was the one who got the top-scorer Wadkar on 133 off 262 deliveries on the fifth morning, as his innings included 16 boundaries and a maximum.

Vidarbha added 19 runs to the overnight total of 528, as the impressive unit finished their first innings on 547 in 163.4 overs.

On the other side, Vidarbha lost all three wickets at the score of 547 which saw Navdeep Saini settling with the five-wicket haul.

The sportsman spirit has thrown a lot on the table in the contemporary cricket which further saw aggressive Australian getting more worried whenever the opposition batsmen get a blow from time-to-time after the unfortunate loss of Phillip Hughes in 2014 that further forced the cricketing world including the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) to review the safety gears.
