Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL trophy on Monday night, making them the joint most decorated IPL franchise along with Mumbai Indians. On the night of the finals, the MS Dhoni-led side defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets, and while accepting the trophy, the skipper summoned Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja to share the floor with him as BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah delivered the trophy to the trio.

IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Notably, this was Ambati Rayudu’s final IPL game, and he was instrumental in CSK’s success over the years. In the final against Gujarat, the 37-year-old smashed 19 runs off eight deliveries to enable CSK to come one step closer to winning the competition. When ten was needed in the final two deliveries, though, Jadeja stood up and struck a six and a boundary to secure CSK’s title, and Dhoni decided to call them up while accepting the trophy.
“A lot depends on the body,”- MS Dhoni said of returning to the IPL in 2024:
Whether Dhoni has it in him to play in another season of the Indian T20 league has been one of the major topics of discussion during IPL 2023. Over the past month and a half, both supporters and detractors have voiced their opinions on the subject, but the man himself has now done so as well.
It all depends on how his body prepares for the challenge, he said during the post-match presentation. Dhoni clarified: “If you see circumstantially this is the best time for me to announce retirement. But with the amount of love and affection I’ve been shown wherever I’ve been this year, the easy thing for me would be to say, ‘Thank you very much’. But the tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine months and come back and play at least one more season of IPL”
“A lot depends on the body, I have six-seven months to decide and it will be more like a gift from my side [to the fans]. It’s not easy for me but the way they’ve shown their love and affection, that’s something I need to do for them” MS Dhoni added.
Dhoni walked away from international cricket in 2020, but he has continued to manage CSK in the IPL, leading them to victories in 2021 and currently 2023.
