Ravichandran Ashwin was the hero of India’s victory in the second Test against England which was played in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Not only did Ashwin perform with the ball, as was expected from him, after he had taken 6/61 in the first Test at the same venue, the off-spinner also starred with the bat as well.

India got an upper hand in the match with Virat Kohli winning the toss and choosing to bat. India posted 329 with Rohit Sharma making a century and Rishabh Pant and Ajinkya Rahane scoring half-centuries. In return, England only managed 134 with Ravi Ashwin picking 5/43, his 29th five-wicket haul in Tests and second in a row.

India came into the second innings with a 195-run lead and was looking to build on it. However, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Virat Kohli Uses Tamil To Egg Ravichandran Ashwin While Bowling To Ben Stokes

Ravichandran Ashwin has been a nightmare for Ben Stokes, as he has been dismissed thrice in four innings by the Tamil Nadu tweaker. That is why when the England all-rounder came to bat, Virat Kohli was quick to bring Ravi Ashwin onto bowl and was very verbal in encouraging him.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli was using Tamil language, Ravichandran Ashwin’s mother tongue, in order to encourage him and fire him up while he was trying to get Ben Stokes out early. Even wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant caught on and started using Tamil words ‘vera level, vera level Ash'(different level) as the off-spinner bowled to England all-rounder.
