Indian skipper Virat Kohli was animated as ever after things heated up in the second Test between England and India at Lord’s. Jasprit Bumrah smacked speedster, Mark Wood, for a boundary that livened the Indian team watching from the Lord’s balcony.

On Day 5 of the Lord’s Test, sparks started to fly after Bumrah walked out to bat at the fall of Ishant Sharma’s wicket. There were a few conversations between Wood and Bumrah, with the former clearly having a word or two to say. Usually, Bumrah is a cool customer but the incident riled him up.

Part of it is likely due to what happened between James Anderson and Bumrah at the end of Day 3. A barrage of bouncers aimed at the body of Anderson left him scathed at the end of the day’s play. Wood wanted to return the favor in kind on behalf of his teammate.

What followed was an interesting sequence of events. Wood, steaming in, bowled a length delivery which was pummeled by Bumrah to the square boundary. A fired-up Kohli was seen clapping from the balcony, egging his teammate on.

Indian tail wagging on Day 5 as hosts England left frustrated

Going into Day 5, England had the wood over the visitors. And things looked firmly in control for them when they dismissed the dangerous Rishabh Pant. However, the tail decided to show up at a desperate moment for India. Ishant Sharma gathered a couple of boundaries before he was dismissed.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami started to stitch a vital partnership, with both batsmen playing extremely crisp cricketing shots. With the lead swelling past 200, England’s shoulders began to drop, and the visibly frustrated bowlers continued to be kept at bay.

As things stand, India had reached 237-8, with the lead standing on 210. Shami and Bumrah were unbeaten at the crease, having contributed with 20 and 15 respectively.
