Delhi Capitals (DC) express fast bowler, Anrich Nortje, knocked over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener, Faf du Plessis, with an absolute screamer. The two sides are fighting for a place in the grand final of the IPL 2021 season.
Delhi was asked to bat first and they did a fabulous job of recovering from a precarious position of 80/4 at the halfway mark, to finally reach 172. Skipper Rishabh Pant scored a luck-filled fifty while Prithvi Shaw and Shimron Hetmyer made major contributions.
For CSK, Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets for just 29 runs in his four overs. Specialist death bowler, Dwayne Bravo, had an off day and he ended up being the most expensive bowler, going for over 10 rpo.
In reply, CSK was off to the worst start possible. If they were to chase down a target as big as this in a qualifier match, they needed a good start. Nortje had other plans, however, and he hit the strides right from ball one.
He reached 150 clicks on the speed gun off his third ball itself. The next delivery had more movement which resulted in Du Plessis’ dismissal. Nortje fired in a ripping inswinging delivery at 147.5kmph and the veteran CSK batsman couldn’t keep it out.
The ball went crashing through the huge gap between the bat and pad, leaving the stumps in tatters. It was a rare failure for Du Plessis, and he couldn’t add much to his overall tally of 546 runs. The winner of this match will head into the final, while the loser moves into Qualifier 2.
