Whether it’s with the bat or with the ball, Shardul Thakur has impressed throughout this winter and the series-decider of the three-match ODI series proved to be no different as the Palghar all-rounder chipped in with an important cameo.
Just as he had done during Brisbane Test where he announced himself with a disdainful pull over backward square-leg off Pat Cummins, Shardul Thakur did the same against Mark Wood as he smoked him for a maximum to set things rolling.
Shardul Thakur stroked two more sixes and a four during his 21-ball 30 and the best shot of his innings was arguably the one he hit off all-rounder Ben Stokes.
It all happened on the fourth ball of the 45th over when Shardul Thakur danced down the track and smoked Ben Stokes for a six over his head.
So impressed was Ben Stokes with that stroke that he proceeded to check Shardul Thakur’s bat.
He tried to do an encore against Mark Wood but, unfortunately, got a thick outside edge off his bat to give a catch to Jos Buttler.
Shardul is, however, not done yet. The all-rounder has claimed the prized scalp of Jos Buttler by pinning him right in front of the wicket to land a body-blow to England’s chances of chasing down 330 and winning the series 2-1.
