Ashes 2021-22: Watch - Joe Root's Frustrated Reaction After Getting Out On Day 1 Of MCG Test

England captain Joe Root was extremely displeased with himself after getting out in a rather poor fashion during Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Root had helped himself to his third fifty of the series when he was caught napping by an innocuous delivery from Mitchell Starc. He looked quite comfortably at the crease in his own fidgety manner, scoring at a great pace to keep England ticking.

Unfortunately, as has been the case for most of his career, Root got out when nobody was expecting, failing to convert another start. The 30-year-old went chasing after a delivery that could have been left, only to get a thick outside edge that was held onto by Alex Carey with the gloves.

England in deep trouble on Day 1 after Joe Root’s downfall
Following Root’s wicket, England’s fragile middle-order was exposed once again. Ben Stokes, who got off to a start, tried to uppercut a delivery that wasn’t high enough, only to give Nathan Lyon a simple catch at point.

Jos Buttler then got out in an atrocious fashion just before the Tea break. He jumped down the track to Lyon and lofted him high in the air. The elevation was plenty but the distance wasn’t enough as a debutant, Scott Boland, gobbled up the catch at deep square leg.
He then came on to bowl to get his maiden wicket, catching Mark Wood plumb in front for an LBW call. England was 141/7 at the fall of Wood’s wicket.
