Sri Lanka and West Indies might not be the best teams going around; however, currently, they are putting on a memorable show at the Vivian Richards International Stadium during their first ODI. West Indian captain Kieron Pollard has played an active part in it already, even before his chance came to swing the bat. Kieron Pollard took an absolute stunner off his bowling to dismiss his counterpart, Dimuth Karunaratne.
Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and elected to bat first alongside striking a half-century. The left-handed batsman was amongst the three batsmen to manage a half-century along with Ashen Bandara and Danushka Gunathilaka. West Indies indeed needed something special to break Sri Lanka’s opening stand that reached 105 before 20 overs. And it came from Kieron Pollard, who took a juggling catch off his bowling to get rid of Karunaratne.
Dimuth Karunaratne played a straight drive, which he hit early and a little above head high. It was only marginally within Kieron Pollard’s reach as he grabbed it and juggled it onto the air the first time. However, the towering all-rounder dived fully to his right and grasped the ball. Karunaratne struck 52 off 61 deliveries with four boundaries. A little later in the match, Pollard appealed for Gunathailaka, who was adjudged out obstructing the field controversially for 55. Pollard had figures of 5-0-15-1 as Sri Lanka folded for 232 despite a brilliant start. Jason Mohammed and Jason Holder proved to be the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each.
Meanwhile, below is the video of Kieron Pollard’s catch to get rid of Dinesh Karunaratne:
