England all-rounder Moeen Ali, on Sunday, dismissed Ravindra Jadeja in India‘s second innings with a heavenly delivery in the dying minutes of Day 4 of the Lord’s Test. Like a typical Lord’s pitch, this surface too is assisting turn on Day 4 – in fact, Moeen Ali got purchase from the surface on Day 2 itself.

On the first ball of the 80th over, Moeen Ali, who had already accounted for the crucial wicket of Ajinkya Rahane, ripped the ball in the air, giving it plenty of flight – an 84 KPH delivery. The ball drifted in to pitch on the middle stump line.

With plenty of revs on it from the bowler and the aiding pitch, the red cherry, which has till now gone rough, turned – but just enough to kiss the outside of Jadeja’s off stump and disturb it and the bails. Moeen Ali set on a celebratory run, and his teammates joined in – especially skipper Joe Root who was pumped to see his side make further inroads – as Jadeja stood there bamboozled.

England had nought Moeen Ali in for this game in place of batsman Dan Lawrence. Ali has been in superb form in white-ball cricket – in the first half of the IPL 2021 for the Chennai Super Kings and then in The Hundred for the Birmingham Phoenix.

A couple of his overs before dismissing Jadeja, the off-spinner had got rid of Ajinkya Rahane, India’s top scorer so far in the innings. Moeen Ali has been brilliant in his fifth bowler’s role, giving away 52 runs in 20 overs bagging a couple of vital scalps as Rahane was starting to accelerate his innings, and Jadeja has the capability to score quickly.

After 82 overs were bowled, an early stumps was called because of bad light. India scored a total of 181 runs losing 6 wickets on day 4 and they 154 runs ahead, which on a slowing, uneven, and spin-assisting pitch could be just a few runs short of enough.
